Circular Poetry Contributions, Letterboxing

Circular Poetry Contributor: Russ Talbot

The next contributor to the Letter.Box.Stamp.Collect. project is Russ Talbot with his pieces laying in bed, preparing to face the dayWheels within wheels and Circles under my eyes. The latter two are from a collection called Ten haiku on the theme ‘Circle’, and Russ says:

I started with the theme “circle”, and braindumped ideas (different types of circles) then wrote a haiku for each. For “laying in bed”, I was thinking I wanted to write a poem where it didn’t matter where you started. The circle made me think of a clock. I often start my day exactly like that – when I don’t have to get up immediately, after waking I lay there shrugging off sleep by running through a mental ‘to do’ list.

NOTES

laying in bed, preparing to face the day by Russ Talbot

Wheels within wheels

A surface ripple

all that betrays the machinations

beneath it.

Circles under my eyes

Caring too much

Sleeping too little.
